The Village of Cloudcroft is roughly 1.5 square miles/3.9 square km, and the main district of businesses are located along Burro Street.  More information about the Village of Cloudcroft can be found here.

Closest airport is El Paso International Airport (ELP). Please plan on arriving in El Paso, Texas. The local organizers will coordinate shuttle service to/from Cloudcroft on the travel dates (Sunday, October 13th and Friday, October 18th), if you choose not to have your own transportation.

The distance from ELP to Cloudcroft is 172 km/107 miles, and it will take approximately 2 hours travel time (one way).

Rental car companies available in ELP include Advantage, Alamo, AVIS, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Payless, and Thrifty.

There is an airport shuttle to Alamogordo (terminus is the Magnuson Hotel Alamogordo Suites, 1021 South White Sands Blvd, Alamogordo, New Mexico). The city of Alamogordo is 40 minutes from Cloudcroft. Rental car company available in Alamogordo is Enterprise.

There is no local taxi service or metropolitan transportation service  in Alamogordo or Cloudcroft.  Uber does exist, but can be pricey since the destinations are far.  If you plan on independent travel, please consider obtaining a rental car.

Visa Information: If you need an invitation letter for a visa to travel to the US, please contact the LOC, and we will provide you one.

US Customs and Border Patrol: For all visitors arriving from El Paso, Texas,  (both US and Foreign Nationals), you will go through a US Customs and Border Patrol station on your way to Cloudcroft.  Please have your passport and/or travel documents ready for inspection during this mandatory stop.  There are Border Patrol stations along State Highway 70 and 54 (from Las Cruces, NM).  If you are approaching Cloudcroft, this is a mandatory stop for everyone (including US citizens).  At each station, there are also patrol dogs to find contraband.  Update:  (Aug 15) The Border Patrol inspection stations on the highways in New Mexico are currently closed, so there will be no mandatory stops on your way to Cloudcroft.  If this changes, we’ll update here.

For telephone numbers in Cloudcroft, Alamogordo, or Las Cruces, the phone code is 575.  El Paso phone code is 915.

Medical emergency:  Call 911 for medical emergencies.
There is a health clinic in Cloudcroft: Sacramento Mountain Medical Clinic. They are open M-F from 08:00-12:00 and 13:00-17:00.  The closest hospital is in Alamogordo, Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center.

Banking: In Cloudcroft, there is one bank, First National Bank, 301 Burro Avenue. There is a walk up ATM at this bank.  Please use any online service to determine the monetary exchange rate.  The maximum amount you can take out of an ATM is $100.00US, often in $20.00US bills.

Post Office: In Cloudcroft, the post office is located at 20 Curlew Place, in the center of the village. Their hours are 8am-4pm.

24-hour services: The Alsups convenience store is open 24 hours, and is within walking distance from The Lodge.

Mobile/Cell phone coverage: New Mexico does support 3G and 4G service. There is good coverage if you have AT&T, Verizon, or T-Mobile in the area. There are drops in coverage along the curvy Highway 82 between Alamogordo and Cloudcroft.

Electricity: The US has 110V and uses Plug type A & B. Be sure you have the appropriate adapter for your electronics!

High Altitude Warning!  If you are sensitive to high altitude and are prone to altitude sickness, please take precautions.  Sunshine can be intense at 8000ft/2600m – bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.  Keep hydrated and take it easy!

For comfort, it is recommended to bring comfortable walking/trekking shoes.  There is no public transportation in the Village of Cloudcroft, but the conference organizers will provide courtesy vans for those who need assistance.  The road between The Lodge and The Pavilion is paved, but is relatively steep.

Climate:  October is expected to be sunny and cool.  Temperatures will be around 15C/60F during the day, but can turn much colder at night with lows around 0C/32F.  Snow can appear in October.
